Tilt or buttons? The eternal mobile control debate
Every racing and arcade game on mobile eventually forces this choice, and people have strong feelings about it. After way too many hours testing both, I've landed somewhere in the middle.
Tilt feels amazing when it works. In Dust Drifters, leaning your phone into a drift is more immersive than any button press. But it falls apart the moment you're on a moving train or lying down at an angle.
Buttons are the reliable workhorse. Less flashy, more consistent, and they don't care how you're holding your phone. For anything requiring precision under pressure, I default to them.
My honest advice is to switch based on where you are, not on principle. Tilt on the couch, buttons on the go. Most good games let you swap freely, so use that.
And if a game only offers one option? That tells you something about how much thought went into it.
